Pen y Cymoedd Wind Energy Project is a 76 turbine development located on land managed by Natural Resources Wales within Rhondda Cynon Taf and Neath Port Talbot. The project will generate enough electricity to meet the domestic need of 188,000 homes per annum, the equivalent of 15% of Welsh homes.
The project is now fully operational, with a site based Operations and Maintenance Team, most of whom live locally to the site.
Pen y Cymoedd Community Fund
The £1.8 million per annum Community Fund has already started to benefit the communities hosting the wind farm in or across the upper reaches of the Neath, Afan, Rhondda and Cynon Valleys.
The Fund offers an opportunity for local people to invest in their ideas to improve the economic, social, cultural and environmental life of their communities – now, and in the long-term.
It’s no ordinary Fund. Over several years through local conversations, residents and communities themselves have defined the priorities they want the funding to support.
The Fund is managed by an entirely independent, locally based and locally accountable not-for-profit Community Interest Company. The Company has six Directors – all with local connections and with years of community engagement experience. Their sole focus is on helping to deliver the ideas and vision of local people.
