Gardeners to the rescue

Gardeners at work

Before the summer holidays, Cwmbach school got in touch. Their school’s gardens were in need of attention after being damaged during construction work to merge the Cwmbach nursery, infant and junior schools over the 2012/13 school year.

Dawn Perry, eco co-ordinator for the school, said: “After the merger, our gardens were lost due to heavy vehicles travelling to and from site.

“We tried to repair them last year, but the ground had become so compact that it was too hard for the children to dig into”.

Jones Bros Balfour Beatty Joint Venture – who are delivering infrastructure on behalf of Vattenfall at the Pen y Cymoedd Wind Energy Project – came to the rescue and a team of labourers took time out of their busy schedule on site to head down to the school to help.

As well as building two new raised beds, they also tidied up the school fields ready for the new school year. They look great, and the pupils can hopefully start enjoying them. We’re looking forward to getting pictures of the garden in use!
