New beginnings

Construction started back in February 2014. Since then our construction team have:

  • Newly constructed or upgraded 80km of access track
  • Constructed 76 turbine foundations
  • Constructed two sub stations
  • Installed 105km of underground high voltage cable
  • Installed a large majority of the turbines
  • Exported first power

With the project expected to be fully operational in early 2017 a newly formed Operations and Maintenance Team lead by Site Manager, Pat Delaney have now been appointed and are based in a new office on the wind farm site called Hwb Pen y Cymoedd.

“We have exciting times ahead. The team are currently undergoing the necessary training for their respective roles and are already taking part in turbine inspections. The majority of the team live within a 45 minute drive of the site and include turbine technicians (responsible for fixing and maintaining the turbines), health and safety representatives, commercial and team support. Two of the team were part of the apprenticeship scheme funded by Vattenfall, in conjunction with Neath Port Talbot College and local company Isofab. We had hundreds of applicants for these roles, but we have finally appointed a strong and talented team.”
