Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Aerial View

For over two years now we have been constructing the project. Around 80kms of new and upgraded tracks have been constructed, along with 76 turbine foundations and 27 wind turbines have now been installed. The landscape has changed dramatically and for this reason the Ordnance Survey maps for the area are out of date and inaccurate. Ordnance Survey are on the case with this and they plan to issue new mapping as soon as they can. When this happens we will let you know where you can find a copy.

Round two of construction from the air

Caption: Steel reinforcement weighing up to 84 tonnes is fixed in place. In total, the 76 turbines require more than 6,000 tonnes of reinforcement.

Last year we published our first aerial footage of the construction works at Pen y Cymoedd. We have now been onsite for close to 18 months and the progress made can be seen in our latest aerial footage. Another local company benefits from Pen y Cymoedd

Apex testing

A Bridgend-based specialist in ground testing services has celebrated a significant contract to supply Pen y Cymoedd Wind Energy Project.

Apex Testing Solutions has secured the equivalent of around 85 per cent of the company’s laboratory work for the year, to provide ground analysis and testing at the wind farm site.

Merry Christmas from site

Eryl Roberts, project manager for the Jones Bros and Balfour Beatty joint venture, gives us the final site update of 2014.

“Work is drawing to a close on site after a very wet but productive end to the year.

“We’ve completed more than half of the turbine bases for the project, having finished our fortieth this week. Work excavating any new bases will now be on hold until February, hopefully avoiding any bad weather at the start of the New Year.
